The Alameda Recreation and Parks Department began as the Alameda Parks and Playgrounds Commission in 1908. It works with various sectors of the community to provide leisure services and opportunities to individuals. The Alameda Recreation and Parks Department maintains several recreational centers that are rented out for parties, receptions and special events.
