In 1978 Newell Arnerich, AIA co-founded the firm in Berkeley, California. This grew to offices in Los Angeles, Oakland and Honolulu along with the addition of several associates including Jack Sagen, Architect, as Senior Vice President and Barbara Maggio, Director of Interior Design. The founding practice's work focused on large scale commercial / residential projects in the western United States. By late 1979, the firm opened and managed a joint venture office in London, England with projects located throughout the middle east. With consistently high standards of design, ad has established a record for securing challenging and diverse commissions both nationally and internationally. The firm's international joint venture projects brought accelerated global communication and clarity of thought and presentation. During the early 1980s, ad began implementing the use of CADD systems and construction cost data base compiling as an added value resource to our firm's overall capabilities. Our work during this decade broadened to include interior design and furnishings, beyond commercial building design. A central point of ad 's work is the interdependence between architecture and interior design in order to achieve a cohesive experience that evokes creative spaces. This relationship has greatly enhanced the firm's resources through out the 1980s and into the 1990s. ad 's dedicated professional staff provides a collaborative team approach to managing and designing creative projects. We strive to build and maintain long term relationships with all of our clients, regardless of size. ad architects has provided architectural design, planning, interior design and project management services to a variety of domestic and international clients. In our experience, we feel the key to a successful project is determined by the personal attention, leadership and guidance given to each client and their project by ad 's principals.
