The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette is a statewide daily newspaper that provides news and information to residents throughout Arkansas. Founded in 1819 as the Arkansas Gazette, it is one of the oldest continuously published newspapers west of the Mississippi River. The newspaper has a circulation of more than 175,000 daily and more than 300,000 on Sunday. Its publisher is Walter E. Hussman Jr., owner and chief executive of Wehco Media, Inc., a media group of Arkansas newspapers and broadcast outlets. The paper is the product of a merger of the Arkansas Democrat and theArkansas Gazette, which Hussman bought from the Gannett Corporation in 1991, ending a13-year newspaper war. One of the Democrat-Gazette s writers, Paul Greenberg, is a Pulitzer Prize winning editorial writer.
