Dr. Zapata attended medical school at Fundacion Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud in Bogota, Colombia. After working in rural medicine and emergency medicine in Colombia, Dr. Zapata became a research fellow at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. He then completed a general surgery internship and urology residency at University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.
