I spent a summer there as a graduate student almost 30 years ago, and I still hope to go back someday. A beautiful place, and a great destination for birdwatchers!

History
The field station opened in 1955 on land that was originally homesteaded in 1879 by Stephen B. Reed. The gift shop opened in 2010.
Specialties
The Chiricahua Nature Shop is located in the parking lot of the Southwestern Research Station, a field station owned by the American Museum of Natural History. The store excels in a selection of natural history books, reference books, field guides and children's books. There's also a wide array of unique T-shirts, caps, pottery, jewelry, local artwork and snacks. Enjoy a coffee on the beautiful outdoor patio. Wifi and restrooms available.

I am taking the Cochise County Master Naturalist class this semester. On Saturdays we take field trips to area labs. Yesterday we routed this place in the Chiricahuas. No research is done here....

The American Museum of Natural History's Southwest Research Station is in a beautiful location high in the sky islands of Southeast Arizona. There's a lot of history here, since the station opened...
