MGI Electronics is a world leader in wafer transfer systems. All systems are software controlled and interface with computers to download data to automate the fabrication process. Robert M. Butler founded MGI Electronics in Syracuse, N.Y., in 1967. In 1974, he developed the industry's first mass wafer transfer system. The Space Index Transfer Device was granted United States patent No.3949891. It was a manual device that transferred 25 wafers at a time from plastic to quartz carriers. The device became the first of seven generations of wafer transfer systems from MGI Electronics.
