Jay N. Patel, MD

Ritika Suri, MD, is a neurologist in the Epilepsy Center and an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Barrow Neurological Institute. She is board certified in neurology and epilepsy by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Suri’s expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy, with special interests in women’s health and epilepsy, refractory epilepsy, epilepsy surgery, and long-term and critical care neurodiagnostic monitoring. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, the American Epilepsy Society, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Suri earned her medical degree from the Maharashtra Institute of Medical Education and Research in Pune, India. She completed her neurology residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, and an epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr Suri is passionate about education and enjoys teaching fellows, residents, and medical students. Her research interests include clinical epilepsy and women’s health and epilepsy.

Nicholas J. Nelson, MD, is a neurologist in the Neurocritical Care Program and an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Barrow Neurological Institute. He is board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Nelson specializes in the treatment of patients with life-threatening neurological conditions, such as intracranial hemorrhage, status epilepticus, and encephalitis. He is a member of the Neurocritical Care Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Nelson earned his medical degree from Jagiellonian University Medical College in Kraków, Poland. He completed both his neurology residency and a neurocritical care fellowship at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville. Dr. Nelson’s research interests include disorders of consciousness, prevention of secondary brain injury following cardiac arrest, and multimodality patient monitoring in the intensive care unit.

Yajing Y. Xiong, MD, is a neurologist in the Epilepsy Center and an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Barrow Neurological Institute. She is board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Xiong’s expertise lies in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. She specializes in the care of patients with refractory epilepsy, including those whose treatment involves epilepsy surgery and therapeutic devices. She is also well-versed in caring for women with epilepsy and for adolescents and young adults with epilepsy as they transition into adulthood. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, and the American Epilepsy Society. Dr. Xiong earned her medical degree from Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. She completed her neurology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania and a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Xiong’s research interests include clinical epilepsy, stereotactic EEG, women with epilepsy during pregnancy, and genetic epilepsy.
