Dr. Mahmud completed medical school at Khyber Medical School in Peshawar, Pakistan. After graduating, she moved to the United States and completed her internal medicine residency at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Illinois. She then completed a fellowship in infectious diseases and a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical microbiology.Before opening up her practice, Dr. Mahmud worked as a primary care doctor but found limitations to a strictly pharmaceutical approach. Dr. Mahmud sees lifestyle medicine as the future to truly improve the health of individuals in the U.S. She has a background in Eastern and Western medical approaches and sees that many modern-day ailments can be improved by taking an Eastern philosophical approach to living, including honoring daily and seasonal rhythms and having a healthy outlook on everyday challenges and stresses. She believes in the Daoist philosophical approach of moving with life and not against it. Dr. Mahmud also believes that body movement is essential to balance and restore chi.
