Casa de los Ni os, founded by Sister Kathleen Clark in 1973, is a nonprofit community-based organization providing shelter and family services to more than 50,000 children and families in Pima County, Ariz. Its crisis shelter program meets the physical, emotional and developmental needs of children from birth through eight, who have families in crisis, are victims of family violence, and are homeless. The children in shelter care receive bed, three meals, clothing, and medical and developmental services. The organization also provides short-term foster care, respite care, ongoing training and development, in-house services, parenting and divorce classes, and family support services. The organization operates a thrift store that accepts items, such as costume and fine jewelry, furniture and housewares, books, electronics and computers, linens, appliances, toys, sporting goods, and collectibles.
