History
Congregation Beth Israel enjoys a rich history in the Valley. Founded in 1920, with 38 members, CBI is the oldest synagogue in Phoenix. On October 31, 1921, construction began on what would be Temple Beth Israel's first location, Arizona's first Jewish Synagogue. By 1948 it had grown to number more than 300 families and on December 26, 1948 groundbreaking ceremonies took place for what would be Beth Israel's second location. We are proud of the heritage and legacy provided by those who have come before us and we embrace the future with their same passion. First Temple Beth Israel, Second & Culver Sts. Second Temple Beth Israel, Tenth Ave & Flower St.
