Founded in 1892, The Valley of the Sun YMCA is one of the largest nonprofit human services agencies in the state of Arizona offers after-school and preschool programs for more than 3,000 children everyday in over 70 locations throughout Phoenix. The agency conducts classes in arts and humanities. It organizes wellness programs for physical fitness and character development. The Valley of the Sun YMCA provides assistance with leadership, learning and problem solving skills. The agency offers counseling to develop age-appropriate social skills, maintain self-esteem and not engage in antisocial behaviors. It also conducts sessions in swimming lessons and water safety and water sports skills. The Valley of the Sun YMCA additionally hosts state-licensed day camps that feature a curriculum, including horseback riding, field trips and adventurous activities. The agency serve more than 40,000 members and guests each month. It maintains a child care center in Phoenix.
