Solving common problems. Transcending geographical boundaries. Improving local communities. These are just a few of the tasks of the Northern Arizona Council of Governments (NACOG), a group of local governments representing Apache, Coconino, Navajo and Yavapai Counties. NACOG staff works with local governments to address similar issues faced by the communities within the region. NACOG's Head Start Division provides comprehensive child development and family support services to economically disadvantaged children and their families. Head Start operates preschool programs for children three to five years of age, and Early Head Start programming for pregnant mothers and children birth to three years of age in select commuities throughout the non-reservation portions of northern Arizona. Head Start services prepare children for future success. Preschool skills are taught that promote school readiness. Early Head Start services promote child/adult bonding and instruction to enhance brain development in infants and toddlers. NACOG's Human & Community Services Division is committed to the development of human and community services in areas ranging from supporting equal opportunities for persons with disabilities and delivering services to older individuals, to combating the conditions of poverty. This division also provides funds for a variety of community development projects. NACOG provides these services to local governments, along with estimates and projections for population growth.
