Mesa Arts Academy
HistoryIn an effort to alleviate over crowding in Mesa Public Schools, Mesa Arts Academy was established in 1995. The Charter School was formed as a partnership between Mesa School District and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley. In its first year, Mesa Arts Academy offered classes to 5th and 6th grade students. Within three years, the charter school was serving Kindergarten through 8th grade students.SpecialtiesWe offer a rigorous (K - 8th) academic program that emphasizes the arts and technology. We have discovered that by integrating the arts and technology into our academic program we create a more hands-on learning environment that better fits the learning styles of our diverse population of students. To accomplish this, we employ only Arizona certified teachers in areas and seek out partnerships with volunteer agencies, schools of higher learning and community businesses. A variety of artists from the community work with our students creating a positive climate that celebrates the gifts of each student. Last year's test scores demonstrate that our program is successful. Recently, the Arizona Charter School Association rated our school third in the state for increasing student achievement. Federal grants provide an aide in every classroom to assist the teacher and students.
