The Sealaska Heritage Institute is a regional native nonprofit organization founded for the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian people of southeastern Alaska. It was established in 1981 by Sealaska Corporation. The institute sponsors annual, intensive two-week language workshops. The Sealaska Heritage Institute administers the Sealaska Kusteey program. It provides grants to accredited educational institutions to ensure the perpetuation of Southeast Alaska Native arts and cultural practices. The institute maintains an online shop. The Sealaska Heritage Institute additionally adminsters Preparing Indigenous Teachers & Administrators for Alaska Schools (P.I.T.A.A.S.), which is a mentor and teacher-training program. The institute also organizes several language and cultural programs.
