Ketchikan Youth Initiatives

Ketchikan Youth Initiatives (KYI) is a non-profit organization based in Ketchikan, Alaska, dedicated to addressing the needs of youth in the community. Established in 2005, KYI aims to develop young leaders through drug-free activities and events, promote youth participation in volunteer activities, and support youth and young adults in achieving successful work experiences. With a focus on community service and life skills programming, KYI empowers teens and young adults to find their identity as inspired leaders through mentorship opportunities.

Over the years, KYI has made significant strides in providing resources and opportunities for the youth of Ketchikan. From the opening of their paintball park in 2006 to the development of the state-of-the-art Shane Howard White Skateboard Park in 2013, KYI has been instrumental in creating safe and engaging spaces for young people. Despite challenges such as the Great Recession and the recent COVID-19 pandemic, KYI remains committed to its mission of empowering youth and continues to work towards the completion of the Youth Community Center on Park Avenue.
