Lifestyle Medicine Alaska
HistoryWhile completing my clinical doctorate in occupational therapy, I became interested in ways to treat chronic conditions. I've had hundreds of clients in my personal training business who were looking for ways to move freely, feel better, and alleviate pain. On one of my clinical rotations, I had the opportunity to take four John F. Barnes Myofascial Release trainings, and study with the experts at his Pennsylvania healing center. I brought this training back to Alaska and my clients gave me wonderful feedback, to the point where I had enough business to solely practice this technique. Recognizing that some people need more comprehensive care, I also offer lifestyle consulting services to assist with building healthier habits and supervised lifestyle change.SpecialtiesMyofascial release therapy: A form of manual therapy which targets the body's soft tissue through gentle, sustained pressure on restricted areas. This complementary and/or alternative medicine approach is used to treat skeletal muscle immobility and pain. Myofascial release is performed on a massage table, but uses a different technique than traditional swedish massage. Lifestyle Management Services: Target the re-creation of a satisfying lifestyle after life/health changes. This includes management of weight or health conditions, prevention of recurrent pain, and balance of physical & emotional demands of daily life. Grand Opening at Spenard Location: January 4, 2016 !
