HistoryBelle Terra's history goes back to 1918 when J.P. Jones purchased the 1000 acre plantation. It was formerly owned by a group of Long Island industrialists, associated with Andrew Carnegie, who used it as a training ground for polo ponies.In the 1920's J.P. commissioned the construction of two twenty-acre spring-fed lakes. J.P. had visited the great Adirondack camps and the national parks of the west and was inspired by their architecture. He designed the lodge to be constructed of huge heart pine timbers cut from estate's forests and modeled after the great Adirondack camps of the era. The estate has served as a hunting and fishing perserve most of its history. During World War II, it was utilized by the U.S. Army as an officer's club. It has been utilized numerous times over the years as a site for nearby Darlington School for summer camps and class reunions. It now functions as a place for weddings and parties, a place to entertain friends and family.SpecialtiesOur specialty is outdoor weddings.
