History
The Z was originally opened in 1972 as the Zodiac Theatre, home to the Zodiac Players. The organization changed over the years, eventually acquring a larger perfromance space a few blocks away. When the ownership of the building changed in 2017, it no longer made sense for that group to continue maintaining the space. In June 2017, the Historic Zodiac Playhouse was formed to save the space as a theater. Since then, it has been host to live theatre, concerts, workshops, classes, and original works.
