He received a degree in biochemistry from Mississippi State University, and then earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he served as chief medical resident. He then completed fellowships in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Mid America Heart Institute. He is board certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
