Jefferson County Family Court

Jefferson County Family Court exercises jurisdiction of proceedings for children who are delinquent, dependent and in need of supervision. The court also exercises jurisdiction over other proceedings, including establishment of paternity and child support enforcement and protection from abuse. It follows the Alabama Rules of Juvenile Procedure and the Alabama Rules of Civil Procedure. Jefferson County Family Court administers adolescent substance abuse, court appointed special advocate, electronic monitoring and court educational enhancement programs. It also administers family therapy, batterer intervention classes and senior aide programs. Its teen court undertakes cases for public intoxication, shoplifting, vandalism and disorderly conduct.
