Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1964 with community support and in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, provides habitat for wintering waterfowl and other migratory and resident wildlife in Eufaula, Alabama. The refuge's diverse habitats support almost 300 species of birds, 40 species of mammals, and a variety of amphibians, reptiles, and fish.
Located along the Chattahoochee River, the 11,184-acre refuge features longleaf pine stands, wetlands, croplands, woodlands, and open water, creating a mosaic of wildlife-rich environments. Management practices include longleaf restoration, prescribed burning, agricultural wetland management, and control of nonnative and invasive plant species.
