EducationAfter completing his undergraduate studies cum laude at Mississippi State University, Dr. Jon Holmes received his dental degree summa cum laude from the University of Mississippi. He then earned his Medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he was the recipient of the Academic Achievement Award. Following a general surgery internship, he completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Holmes was subsequently named for the Dennis and Roberta R. Youde Fellow in Head and Neck Surgery at Legacy Medical Center in Portland, Oregon, where he received advanced training under internationally recognized surgeons, Eric J. Dierks, M.D., D.M.D. and Bryce E. Potter, M.D., D.M.D. Dr. Holmes returned to Birmingham where he served on faculty at UAB. In July 2002, he and Dr. Mark Clark joined practices at State-of-the-Art outpatient surgery facility located in Historic Southside. Dr. Holmes serves as a referral resource for doctors across the southeast, providing care for patients requiring complex oral and maxillofacial surgery. He is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial and has served as a Board examiner since 2009.
