The Fort Payne Depot Museum is a unique Richardsonian Romanesque building of locally quarried pink and white sandstone that has been preserved for over 85 years. It serves as a repository of DeKalb County and Fort Payne history, with permanent and rotating exhibits in two separate buildings. Visitors can explore the Gussie Killian Collection of Native American basketry, pottery, and artifacts, as well as the L.A. Dobbs exhibit of Civil War, World War I and II, and Vietnam War memorabilia. The Depot Annex in the Fort Payne Coal Iron Building houses rotating exhibits and a substantial collection of dioramas by Steve Fiora. We did not go inside. We also just walked around and took some pictures. We had just come from another Museum in Fort Payne. I also would have loved to go inside as the grounds were lovely....
