Decatur Utilities provides electricity, natural gas, water and wastewater services in the greater Decatur, Ala., area. Serving more than 30,000 customers in the Tennessee Valley region, the company provides for residential and commercial locations. Decatur Utilities is a municipal utility owned by the City of Decatur. Decatur Utilities is the operating name of the Municipal Utilities Board of Decatur, Morgan County, Ala. Local Act No. 89 of the Alabama Legislature in 1939 created the Board. Customers are billed once a month for service used the previous month. A late fee is assessed on any amount not paid by the due date shown on the bill. Customers are given five days past their due date to pay the current charges without any interruption of service.

Founded in 1936, Cullman Electric Cooperative is a nonprofit electric membership representing four counties in northern Alabama. It is committed to providing service for more than 36,000 customers and is owned by its members. Cullman Electric Cooperative integrated an interactive voice response unit that assists it members in obtaining information relating to their account, reporting outages and providing customer service to its members. This system requires that remote offices be connected to its main location to appear as one office that is transparent to the customer. The cooperative also requires project management services in order to assist with designs of the telecommunications networks, as well as the implementation of these services. Its main office is in Cullman, Ala., and its branch office is in Addison, Ala.
