Chief Ladiga Trail
The Chief Ladiga Trail, located in Cleburne and Calhoun counties in east-central Alabama, spans 34 miles and is recognized as the state's premier rail trail. This smooth asphalt path winds through the lush Talladega National Forest and connects several cities, including Piedmont, Jacksonville, Weaver, and Anniston, ultimately linking to the Silver Comet Trail at the Georgia state line.
When combined, the Chief Ladiga and Silver Comet trails offer over 95 miles of continuous, non-motorized paved surfaces ideal for walking, bicycling, rollerblading, and dog walking. Currently, efforts are underway to extend the Chief Ladiga Trail by an additional 6.5 miles to the Amtrak station in Anniston, with a tentative completion date set for October 2024.
