Books-A-Million is one of the largest book retailing companies in the United States. It offers a selection of books, magazines, collectible supplies, cards and gifts. The company operates retail bookstores under the names Books-A-Million, Bookland and Joe Muggs Newsstands. Its subsidiary, American Wholesale Book Company, provides book wholesale and distribution services for retailers across the southeastern United States. Books-A-Million was founded in 1917 as a street corner newsstand in Florence, Ala. It operates more than 200 stores in over 15 U.S. states. The company also owns an Internet development and services company, NetCentral, which provides systems solutions and Web development services. Books-A-Million is headquartered in Birmingham, Ala.
