Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama is one of the largest providers of health care benefits in Alabama. It is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. The agency has been serving the health care industry since 1936. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama administers a range of health and dental programs for more than 3.5 million individuals throughout the United States. The individuals represent over 30,000 companies, including large corporations and small businesses. The agency has a work force of nearly 3,000 people and service centers in Montgomery, Huntsville, Mobile and Birmingham in Alabama. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama offers a prenatal wellness program, Baby Yourself, which ensures that expectant mothers and their babies receive the best possible health care during pregnancy conditions. It operates the Alabama Child Caring Foundation (ACCF), which is a nonprofit, publicly supported organization, as well as the funding mechanism for the Alabama Child Caring Program (ACCP).
