The park was opened in 1965 to the public as an independent agency of the state of Alabama. Since then, more than 13 million visitors have trod her decks and stood in awe of her majestic presence. The submarine USS Drum, a World War II veteran with 12 Battle Stars, joined the USS Alabama in 1969.

I wish 1. There was a bigger sign stating what time the gift shop closes or 2. Stay open til 5 when the ship closes.

Not a big variety & high priced. A bottled water will run you $3. The good part is that you can refill it on the ship from their filtered water drinking fountains. Be prepared :)
