The Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is a full-time orchestra based in Birmingham, AL, committed to expanding the boundaries of music through innovative concert education and creative programming. Since its inception in 1921 as a volunteer ensemble, the ASO has grown into the only full-time professional orchestra in the state.
In addition to extraordinary performances, the ASO places a strong emphasis on education, providing inspiring experiences for students across Alabama, many of whom encounter a live symphony orchestra for the first time through their programs. With diverse venues including the Alys Stephens Center and Samford University’s Wright Center, the ASO actively engages the community through music in various settings.
