Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind, established in 1858, is a comprehensive education and rehabilitation system serving children and adults who are deaf, blind and multidisabled. It serves children of ages 3 to 21 through Alabama School for the Deaf, the Alabama School for the Blind and the Helen Keller School of Alabama, accredited residential programs. The organization s special preschool programs prepare children for learning. Its E.H. Gentry Technical Facility is an accredited two-year technical school, which offers adults with sensory loss a program of evaluation, adjustment and vocational training in different fields. The organization offers various services to public and private school teachers, including providing textbooks and instructional materials for the blind. Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind is located in Talladega, Ala.
