Established in 1973, the Pilon Gallery houses a permanent collection of works by Slovene painter, graphic artist, and photographer Veno Pilon (1896–1970), including a representative selection of oil paintings (landscapes, portraits, and nudes) which rank Pilon among the most important modernist artists of Europe. The gallery is the first monographic gallery in Slovenia based on the author's legacy. The yellow-blue gallery consists of two town houses, one of which is the Pilon home, where the bakery that belonged to the painter’s father was once located. Veno Pilon’s permanent exhibition is on the first floor. In addition to artworks, it also features documentary material and personal possessions. Pilon’s photographic oeuvre, which proves he really was an all-round artist, is presented in the attic. The ground floor is intended for occasional exhibitions in the fields of fine arts, design, architecture and photography, for lectures and for music, literary and other cultural events.
