Hardanger Folk Museum

With a stunning view of the fjord and mountains, and surrounded by fruit orchards you'll find Hardanger Folk museum. Here you can experience the Hardanger culture in all its variety: You will find a folk music exhibition with great collection of Hardanger fiddles, an exhibition on the local folk costume tradition, including displays of the exquisite Hardanger embroidery. There are changing exhibitions and examples of wonderful wood carvings. The open-air museum has 20 buildings dating from medieval times to the 20th century, that gives a good understanding of local building traditions and living conditions. In the spring you can experience the beauty of fruit trees blossoming in the surrounding fruit orchards. A museum shop holds a wide range of arts and crafts, and a nice selection of literature. Beadwork and drawing workshop for kids. Café (open in summer season and on special occations) with stunning view and homemade food.
