Grip is a unique and authentic fishing village located 14 kilometers north of Kristiansund. In the 16th century, Grip was the largest settlement in Nordmøre. The island was first owned by the Catholic Church, then by the Danish/Norwegian king, then by a number of private owners, before Grip became its own municipality in 1909 - Norway's smallest. Grip became part of Kristiansund in 1964. Grip has the world's northernmost original stave church.
