The Hunebedcentrum in the village of Borger on the Drenthe Hondsrug takes you on a journey into prehistory. Meet your ancestors in the Hunebed Centre. The exhibition in the Hunebed Centre takes you back to the time of your earliest ancestors: the hunebed builders who lived here 5,000 years ago. Interactive games, dioramas and informative displays tell the stories of these prehistoric people. Outside you can visit the largest hunebed in the Netherlands, and in the Prehistoric Park you will come face to face with these ancient people. Das neue Stadtmuseum an der Koppelschleuse Am 29. September 2020 eröffnete das neue Stadtmuseum an der Koppelschleuse in Meppen. Es bildet seither zusammen mit dem 1996 gegründeten und ebenfalls neu eingerichteten Emsland Archäologie Museum den musealen Kern des „Kulturnetzwerks Koppelschleuse“. Nach 1,5 Jahren Bauzeit laden nun auf zwei Ebenen und auf einer Fläche von knapp 800 Quadratmetern die „zwei Museen unter einem Dach“ zu einer aufregenden Zeitreise in die Ur- und Frühgeschichte des Emslands und in die Geschichte der Stadt Meppen von den Anfängen bis in die Gegenwart ein. Entstanden ist ein eindrucksvolles Doppelmuseum im ländlichen Raum in gemeinsamer Trägerschaft von Landkreis und Stadt, wobei beide Institute eng zusammenwirken aber auch ein je eigenes Profil besitzen. Im Stadtmuseum Meppen wird in einer modernen Präsentation ein frischer Blick auf die lange, wechselvolle Historie der Stadt Meppen geworfen und in acht Themeninseln effektvoll beleuchtet.
