Rīga ZOO is the oldest zoo in the Baltic States, which boasts about 400 animal species and about 3,000 animals. Its overall strategic objective is to maintain the only national zoo, to educate the public about the fauna of Latvia and the world and its protection, to promote healthy lifestyle and tourism with the offer of quality recreation, to carry out research and to contribute to the conservation of rare and disappearing species, while ensuring a high level of welfare for zoo animals. It is a great place to enjoy walks in the picturesque Mežaparks, while observing the all sorts of animals - from the stately giraffes to active ants. You can find something new and unseen here every time of the year. Different animals can be seen both outside and indoors – in a Tropical house, Terrarium, Aquarium and elsewhere. It is possible to use a picnic area as well and a children's playground area, snacks and refreshments, and clean air in the forest surroundings in animal society.
