Playing in and with nature For the small children in the age of 1 till 7 there is a nature playing ground called the Takkenbende, laying in front of the main building. These nature playing grounds are laying directly next to the petting zoo, bordering to the animal meadow and the front garden. Children can come play with sand, logs and cool wooden cabins. Of cource there is more than enough space for the parents or grandparents to sit down and have a coffee or thee from the Ulebelt. The older children can go to the Waterstam, a more rough nature playing ground. Here the children can release all their energy at the water playing ground with big logs and more cool wooden cabins. Also there is gorgeous tunnel and a watchtower on a hill. Including small cafe and terrass.

On March 31, 1913, Faisanterie Buitenlust, the forerunner of the current modern animal park Burgers' Zoo, opens its doors to the public for the first time. Since its foundation by Johan Burgers, the first owner and the one who named the animal park in Arnhem, the park has always remained a real family business. Already from its inception the zoo caused a sensation due to its daring new organisation, which naturally is in the way the animals' accommodations are shaped as well as in the way the experiences for the visitors are created. Burgers' Zoo has a rich history, which has shaped the zoo into the way it is today, and as you can still find it now in the wooded area just north of Arnhem.
