Panmure Place
Montrose, Scotland DD10 8HF
Opened in 1842 by Montrose Natural History and Antiquarian Society, Montrose Museum tells the story of Montrose and its people, from the earliest archaeological finds to the Marquis of Montrose and the Jacobite uprisings, the harbour and maritime trade. The museum came into being when in 1841 the Montrose Natural History and Antiquarian Society started a fund to expand its space, in order to hours its curiosities and wonders ranging from geological and ethnographical artefacts to a collection of natural history objects and fine art. It was one of the first purpose-built museums in Scotland and houses its series of displays in the neo-classical building's spacious atrium, mezzanine and galleries. Accredited in 2009 the collections are owned by Angus Council and cared for by ANGUSalive. The museum has something for all ages and has free admission.
