Friends Of Glasgow Royal Infirmary Museum

The Friends of Glasgow Royal Infirmary Museum is a small museum within the current hospital. It celebrates its history of medical, surgical and nursing achievements since it was built in 1794. Highlights include Joseph Lister, the founder of anti septic surgery, John MacIntyre, who created the world’s first x-ray department, William Macewen, who performed the world’s first successful brain operation, and Rebecca Strong, the hospitals, first matron who revolutionized the profession of nursing. We have a rotation of exhibits and exhibitions. Adjacent to the museum we have a biodiversity garden, wildflower, meadow, and medicinal garden, highlighting the importance of nature with medicine.
