Whitefriars Bridge, also known as the Bridge of St Martins, boasts a complex history dating back to its original construction around 1110-1120. After being demolished in 1549, it was rebuilt in stone in 1591, featuring a large arch and two turrets, only to be taken down again during the reign of James I between 1603 and 1625.
The bridge underwent repairs in 1835 and was rebuilt once more in the 1920s, reflecting its enduring significance in the historical landscape of Norwich. Although it is no longer scheduled as a monument, its legacy continues to be recognized within the rich tapestry of the city's heritage.
