By George the food - and drink - at this new-school Didsbury boozer is good! Joining the growing throng of fine eateries and watering holes in West Didsbury village along Burton Road, The George Charles is already a local favourite. The food is cooked, as it were, from the ground up using the best that Manchester's regional suppliers can hand over, the drinks are top-notch, and the whole lot is housed inside a sensitively restored Victorian pub, owner David Vanderhook paying tribute to the area's rich history of migration and hard graft by naming their gastropub-gaff after late 19th-century Armenian emigre who marries a local lass and opened up a fruit stall nearby. All manner of robust European and British classics are on offer thanks to the magic of head chef Phil Larkin, there are craft beers aplenty for hopheads, and you'll often find live music gracing the premises, too.
