282-284 Arkwright Street Trent Bridge
Nottingham, England NG2 2GR
The Embankment, a Grade II listed building, was designed by Albert Nelson Bromley, the architect behind some of the most distinctive Boots pharmacy buildings, and opened in 1907 as ‘Boots Store 2’. In 1919 the Boots Social Club was formed on the same site, created by Jesse Boot as a place of recreation for his staff. The social club was so popular it soon expanded throughout the building and, following the closure of Boots Store 2 in 1979, took over the whole site. Located on the city side of Trent Bridge, the pub is ideally located for sporting fans visiting both Nottingham football grounds and of course Trent Bridge cricket ground. Castle Rock took over operations of the Embankment in June 2015, and restored the building to create an excellent community pub. The Embankment is Castle Rock’s biggest site, set over three floors. On the ground floor you’ll find a main bar in the hub of the building, the Arkwright Room – ideal for dining, and the Conservatory. The former Boots Store 2 now houses The Dispensary, a real ale and craft beer bar with a nod to the medicinal history of the site. The Dispensary hosts ten craft beers at any one time, along with a great range of real ales both local and national. A new beer garden is now open and great for catching some rays while you have a pint or a bite to eat. Upstairs, Jesse Boot’s office remains as it always has; a beautiful wood-clad room with a gallery view of the main bar and stained glass windows, ideal for corporate meetings and intimate functions. The Lord Trent Room, the former social area of the Embankment, is a stunning function room with double height ceilings, elegant arches and a central dance floor. Please call the pub and speak to the event organiser Debbie, to discuss hiring out either of these spaces. On the bars you will of course find Castle Rock real ales and LocAles, craft beers, premium lagers and spirits, wines and locally roasted coffee.
