The restaurant looks out over the grounds and diners can expect a wonderful vista of wildlife, including deer, rabbits, a wide variety of birds and of course the Hotel’s much loved red squirrels.The Hotel is located just outside Rosthwaite in Cumbria. It is roughly a 35 minute drive from the town of Penrith and Junction 40 off the M6 and offers plenty of free on-site parking. Just under an hour’s drive away is the city of Carlisle which offers excellent transport links to the rest of the country as well as a regular train service to Penrith. There is also a bus that stops 200 yards away from the Hotel which can take guests to Keswick. For those flying in, Newcastle Airport is approximately a 2 hour drive away.The Hotel is located in the heart of the Lake District and is the perfect base from which to explore the area. Whether it’s a brief relaxed stroll or a more challenging hike, the varied landscape of rolling hills, imposing mountains, deep lakes, winding rivers and secluded villages offers something for everyone to enjoy. Indeed, there are plenty of scenic walks that start right on the Hotel’s doorstep, including a footpath at the bottom of the garden that leads to Stonethwaite and Grasmere in one direction and Watendlath in the other. Just a short distance away is the spectacular Derwent Water, where visitors can embark on a boat trip across the lake. It is also home to Keswick’s Theatre By The Lake, one of the most beautifully located theatres in the country. There are plenty of other nearby attractions including Howister Slate Mine, offering fully-guided underground tours and Winlatter Forest Park, a mountain forest perfect for exhilarating mountain biking, wildlife walks and adventurous outdoor activities.
