6 Martin Lane Cannon Street
London, England EC4R 0DP
This ancient listed building pre-dates the Great Fire of 1666 and is the oldest wine house in the city; originally it was a merchants house. Much later, Dickens came here to meet his friends and smoke a clay pipe, perhaps even to find inspiration for Oliver Twist. Part of the cellars are even older and provide unique surroundings and atmosphere for our Candlewick Restaurant. It is believed that smugglers used the old tunnel to the river which was unearthed during building operations a few years ago. It is a hidden gem in the heart of the City, well worth a visit if you appreciate good wine and food in a charming atmosphere. Opening hours are Mon 10am - 10.00pm Tue to Fri 10am - 11.00pm. Lunch Served from 12.00 Noon on-wards, including tapas, large plate specials, sandwiches and sharing boards.
