Eastgate Street
Chester, England CH1 1LT
First served at The Chester Grosvenor in 1882, the tradition of 'taking tea' has been enjoyed by many since its launch and is long established as being the finest afternoon tea in Chester. First created by the Duchess of Bedford in 1830 to stave off her mid-afternoon hunger pangs, afternoon tea was firmly established as a British staple in Victorian England, a light meal of tea (usually Darjeeling) and cakes or sandwiches was the perfect balance. The Duchess found taking an afternoon snack to be such a perfect refreshment that she soon began inviting her friends to join her. Afternoon tea quickly became an established and convivial repast in many households. We are proud to serve what we believe to be the best afternoon tea in Chester, delicate finger sandwiches and sweet treats from our skilled pastry chefs. Afternoon tea is served in Arkle Bar and Lounge, which is suitable for children over the age of 12. For bookings of 5 or more persons please call the hotel directly.
