Verdun is first and foremost, the capital of “Pochouse”! This regional speciality dates from the 16th century when the local fishermen, “pochoux” in the local patois, would prepare this peasant dish with fish from the rivers Doubs and Saone (pike, perch, eel and tench) and white wine from the Coteaux de Bragny. In 1949 the Pochouse brotherhood (Confrerie de la Pochouse) was formed and they meet once a year in October. This unique local dish is served in the hotels and restaurants of Verdun and the surrounding area, so come and try it.
