5 Rue Des Capucines
Paris 75001
"A former 17th century private mansion with its rich history" Ideally located on the corner of Place Vendôme and rue des Capucines, a step or two away from the arts and business district, the building in which the Hôtel Mansart was set up was built in 1720. It was designed by Jules-Hardouin Mansart, Louis XIV’s favorite architect, who also designed the Château de Versailles and the Invalides’ dome. The Crown jewelry-maker, Alexandre-Gabriel Lemonnier lived there during the Second Empire. He was involved in making Place Vendôme the jewelry district and made, among others, Empress Eugénie’s crown. The building was turned into a luxury hotel at the end of the 19th century. Even today, each room has kept the traces of past periods in its own way: the 17th century, the Second Empire, the Victorian influence at the end of the 19th century.
