Tallinn 10146
The oldest surviving and the only intact gothic Town Hall in Northern Europe. Dating from the late 13th century, it was first mentioned in 1322 and completed in its present size in 1404. Today the Town Hall performs its historical function as the venue for festive ceremonies and public concerts. The colourful vaults, murals and tapestries reflect the wealth of the Hanseatic town. Rarest of all are the medieval benches depicting Tristan and Isolde, Samson and Delilah etc. The carved frieze in the Council Chamber is one of the finest examples of Baroque in Estonia. The height of the medieval bell tower is 64 metres. The bell chamber is at the height of 34 metres.
