Duke Michael Andreas Barclay de Tolly (1761-1818) was a Russian military leader with Baltic German roots. He was distinguished by his talent and bravery as an officer in a number of battles, being decorated a total of 14 times - including with the title of count and eventually duke. The monument to Barclay de Tolly was unveiled in 1849. It was created by Vassili Demut-Malinovski and Apollon Shtshedrin. The duke is buried in his family's tomb in Jogeveste.
