The tower Kiek in de Kök together with the passages of the Ingrian and Swedish bastions is an exciting part of Tallinn historical fortifications.The exhibition of “Kiek in de Kök and Bastion Passages” reopened in March 2010 takes the visitor to a time journey that begins in 1219 and offers experience, information and entertainment. With the help of innovative video- and sound-effects and means of multimedia the birth and evolution of Tallinn, the history of town fortifications and the most significant military events are introduced to the visitor.The time train in the bastion passages takes the tourist to 2219. The other part of the passage display concentrates on the history of the passages.The cafe on the uppermost floor of the tower offers magnificent views of the upper town Toompea, the lower town and the harbor.

The fortification complex, with its four towers, city wall parapet and bastion passages. The museum presents an overview of how Tallinn has been defended and war has been waged through the ages, as well as the role of the fortifications during peacetime. The Kiek in de Kök tower, the Maiden’s Tower (Neitsitorn), the Stable Tower (Tallitorn), the Gate Tower (Väravatorn), the bastion passages and the Carved Stone Museum make up a complex that is over 500 meters long. It has two entrances: from the Kiek in de Kök tower (Komandandi tee 2) and Maiden Tower (Lühike jalg 9/Lossi plats 11). Whole museum is accessible from both entrances. OPENING TIMES Summer season 1. May – 30. September Mon–Sun 10.00–18.00 1. October – 30. April Tue, Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun 10.00–17.00 Thu 10.00–20.00 CLOSED on national holidays: January 1, February 24, June 24, August 20, December 24.-26. Closes 3 hours earlier on days preceding public holidays: February 23, June 22, December 23, December 31. The museum is divided in three parts that can be visited either in combination or separately.
