Spøttrup Castle is the closest thing Denmark has to a real medieval castle. Surrounded by the enormous moat, it is beautifully located by Spøttrup Lake. The castle’s strong defences have kept the enemy at bay over the yars, and the castle has never been occupied. The castle has a beautiful medicinal garden inspired by the medieval and Renaissance periods, including an amazing herb garden with more than 280 plants. A large number of events are held at the castle during the year: guided tours, holiday activities, markets, live re-enactments and much more.

Dive into the early Middle Ages and experience the Battle of Grathe Heath, The Bloody Feast in Roskilde and the story about three medieval kings fighting with all means for the power of Denmark. Learn about the lives of the people on the heath and in the villages in the 19th century and explore the life of the priest and poet St. St. Blicher. Blicher wrote world famous novellas and poems and described the wonderful nature on the heath. He was deeply involved in how society developed in first half of the 19th century. Also remember to visit the wolf and have a look at the eagle in the exhibition of natural history.
